Review by hotel critic
Nestled in Oldtowne Gastonia, the Esquire Hotel, Ascend Hotel Collection®, is a beautifully restored landmark that seamlessly blends historic charm with modern comforts. I was pleasantly surprised when my original plans shifted from a chain hotel to this magnificent gem, and it did not disappoint. The stylish guest rooms, complete with delightful pillows and linens, offered a sanctuary after a long day—perfect for a group of fellow marathon-running friends I was traveling with. Meagan at the front desk set the tone for our stay with her exceptional hospitality; her warmth and local insights made our check-in experience truly memorable. We also enjoyed the delightful atmosphere of the Notary coffee shop, where the exposed brick walls evoke a sense of history and serve as an inviting backdrop for morning conversations over fresh espressos. Another highlight was dining at Barrister's, where I savored Southern-inspired dishes crafted from locally sourced ingredients. The charming outdoor seating options, including the stunning rooftop with views of Kings Mountain, provide the ideal setting for catching up with friends over signature cocktails as the sun sets. If you're in the area, I can't recommend the Esquire highly enough—it's an experience that beautifully captures the spirit of its surroundings while delivering top-notch service.
